Buying a smartphone: things to consider

Nowadays, we cannot imagine our lives without our smartphones. There is no doubt that everyone uses a smartphone, but not everybody knows  what to expect for the price they pay.

while choosing a new smartphone, Most people are concerned with the camera, megapixels, and storage on a new smartphone. Yes, these features are important, but they are not the only ones to consider before buying a new phone. In this article, I will discuss some other factors to consider before buying a smartphone

    1. Display

     Display Size

When it comes to a smartphone, it is not just the size of the display that matters.  There are several more factors to consider. The resolution refers to the number of pixels on the screen. The higher the resolution, the more information can be displayed on the screen. Although larger displays are good, it’s equally important that they have good pixel density. The pixel density is the display resolution divided by the size of the screen, giving you the PPI, or Pixels Per Inch. The greater the pixel density, the sharper the images and videos.

     Display Type

Smartphones come with a variety of display types. AMOLED, LCD, and OLED are the most popular today. LCD displays are typical of cheaper smartphones; they produce good color accuracy and consume less power, but they have less contrast. AMOLEDs and OLEDs are found in many mid-range and premium smartphones. These screens are thinner than LCD screens, very power efficient, have excellent viewing angles, and have good contrast ratios.

     Refresh Rate

The refresh rate refers to the number of times that a display will refresh its image in a second. In a 60Hz display, the screen changes 60 times a second, whereas in a 90Hz display, the screen changes 90 times a second. In layman’s terms, higher refresh rates equate to a smoother display for fast-moving images and games.

    2. Processor

The processor is the brain of this platform. It controls almost all the functions of a smartphone. Your smartphone’s performance is directly related to its processor. Any task you perform on the phone whether it is opening apps, browsing the net, or playing games is dependent on the processor. The better the processor, the smoother and lag-free these tasks will be.  Looking at the speed in terms of Ghz can make choosing a processor difficult.  In general, the higher the value, the faster the processor.

    3. Cameras

Inbuilt cameras on smartphones are a hot topic with brands trying to outdo each other with higher megapixel counts. Don’t be fooled by this. Simply having more megapixels does not make your images better. In addition to the number of megapixels, good photos are also influenced by factors such as ISO levels, aperture, autofocus speed, and more. Don’t worry about the megapixel count, but rather focus on features like aperture, dual lens and optical image stabilization. If possible, check out the camera performance of the smartphone at the local store or watch YouTube videos from trusted reviewers so that you have a better idea before making a purchase.

    4. Operating System

You can choose between Android and iOS. If you decide to buy an Android smartphone, you will have the choice of many versions to choose from. For the best experience, you should check the Android version of the device and buy smartphones that are powered by the latest Android version, since they will continue the software and security updates for two years. During this time, you can stay updated. In addition to these, manufacturers customize Android with their own user interface. Nevertheless, it can sometimes take time for the latest updates to push depending on the manufacturers. Choosing a smartphone with an excellent UI will provide a smooth and intuitive experience when using apps.

Special sales and big promotions aren’t always the best deal. Understanding what features you require in a smartphone is very important, as it can vary greatly from person to person. Know what suits you and make your own decision.
